Leominster, Herefordshire

1. An historic market town in Herefordshire located on the Welsh Marches.

2. It is now a town of some 11,000 inhabitants.

3. In the recent past it has suffered from rural population decline as employment in agriculture has dwindled.

4. The reduction in employment opportunity in farming as pushed the younger population away from the town in search of work.

5. To reverse this decline, Local Authorities and the Rural Development Commisssion looked to develop industrial estates in this market town to provide alternative sources of employment.

6. By 1996, nearly 1000 people were employed on these new industrial estates.
